John M. Downing Sr


John M. Downing founded the firm in 1969. He graduated from at St. John's University School of Law in 1962. He was an editor of the Law Review and the lead member of the National Moot Court Team. He also was an assistant editor of the St. Thomas More Journal and was awarded a full academic scholarship. Mr. Downing has lectured for the New York State Bar Association's Continuing Legal Education Trial Advocacy Program.

Mr. Downing was an associate in the Law Department of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey from 1962 to 1964. In that position he became thoroughly expert in analyzing and counseling with respect to municipal law issues. From 1964 to 1969 Mr. Downing was a senior trial attorney with the law firm of Reilly & Reilly, a noted jury trial defense firm for leading insurance companies.

Mr. Downing was described by one Federal trial judge as "superbly articulate and energetic."[*2] Mr. Downing has trained the attorneys at the firm to employ the same style and technique that earned him a reputation as one of New York's foremost trial lawyers. Mr. Downing has the highest peer review rating (AV) of the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
